Nevada State Railroad Museum

A fun opportunity for a night photo shoot (that started during the day) at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City, Nevada. A tremendous thank you to the staff and volunteer crew members who ran the trains all day for the public and then stayed late to give all of us multiple chances to capture some images. Add the period actors who braved the cold and constant pose adjustments to help with some really neat compositions.

A bit about the restored and magnificent equipment:

McKeen Motorcar #22 - Built for the Virginia & Truckee Railroad in 2909 by the McKeen Motorcar Company of Omaha Nebraska, this particular car was rebuilt with expanded mail and express space and placed in service from Reno to Minden. The last run was in September 1945. The car was restored and unveiled in May 2010, one hundred years exactly from the date it was delivered to the Virginia & Truckee Railroad.

Virginia & Truckee Locomotive #25 - Build for the Virginia & Truckee Railroad in 1901 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, it originally burned coal but was converted to oil in 1907. The V&T sold #25 to RKO Pictures in 1947 and it was in a number of motion pictures.

Glenbrook #1 - The locomotive Glenbrook was built for the Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Fluming Company in 1875 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia. It is a “Mogul” type freight locomotive built to operate the 3 foot narrow gauge rails of the Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Fluming Company. This locomotive hauled lumber and cord wood from the sawmills at Glenbrook, on the shores of Lake Tahoe, to the top of Spooner Summit. From the Summit, the wood was then put in a water flume that carried it to the south end of Carson City.
