Magic of Cowboys

I attended my first weekend photography workshop mid-January in Gold Canyon, AZ. The “Magic of Cowboys” workshop by the magnificent Lisa Langell, was one of the best experiences I’ve had since picking up a camera. Lisa was assisted by the amazing Lori, Cathi, and Bethany who all were instrumental in being able to capture images that I never thought I could make.

Hosted at Don Donnelly’s D-Spur Ranch the particpants got to experience and practice: high-key and low-key photography, action shots with the amazing cowboys Ben, Rycke, Cotton, and AJ, portrait instruction, silhouette, re-enactment with a group of fun period actors, flay-lay photography, and some impromptu fun. In addition to the top-notch instruction we enjoyed some amazing chuckwagon food, campfire entertainment courtesy of singer-songwriter Steve Holmquist, lots of laughs, and memories to last a lifetime.

I’m going to break up the photos into three groups below.  Click on an image to open the series in a separate lightbox to scroll through them.

The first set is some of the artistic photos: flat-lay, high key, low key.

The next series are silhouette and some action shots.

Portraits with our amazing re-enactors, cowboys, and cowgirls.
